Science Final at Oxford University

Following a brilliant performance in the Quiz Club Science General Knowledge area heats, we are thrilled to announce that a team from Saracens Broadfields has secured a spot in the national finals.

Competing against over 44 schools, our team—comprising two talented pupils from Year 5 and two from Year 6—showed incredible teamwork and expertise to win their heat outright. This victory earns them a prestigious invitation to Oxford University on 29th June.

Enormous congratulations to our young scientists – it is a monumental achievement to be recognised among the top teams in the country!

Annual Iftar

Saracens High School kicked off the half term break with our annual iftar, celebrating the diversity we enjoy at our school and the spirit of Ramadan.

As the sun set, we shared a delicious meal and enjoyed the festive atmosphere, including beautiful henna designs. Staff and sixth formers spoke eloquently and a poignant moment of shared prayer followed.

True to ‘The Saracens Way,’ the night ended with a collective effort—pupils, families, and staff all pitched in to clear the hall. This display of humility and teamwork perfectly captured the spirit of the evening. Thank you to everyone who made it so special. Ramadan mubarak!

Debating National Finals

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the Saracens Broadfields Debate Club has qualified for the grand finals of the national Cicero Cup. Following a hard-fought semi-final, our team has officially placed in the top eight schools in the UK.

This is a monumental achievement for a club that only began in October 2024. After entering their first competition in January 2025, our pupils have shown incredible growth. They recently placed second at the Barnet Debate Day Challenge at Middlesex University, and reaching the national finals is a particularly proud moment as they will compete against some of the most prestigious private schools in the country.

Literacy and oracy are central to the curriculum at all Saracens Multi-Academy Trust schools. Developing these skills early ensures that students in the sixth form at Saracens High School possess the confidence required for elite university interviews. A wonderful example of this is Harroon and Negareen, who have both just received offers to study medicine at King’s College London and St Mary’s University.

We know that our values of discipline, hard work, honesty, and humility will serve our Saracens Broadfields debaters well as they prepare for the finals in June. Go Sarries!

Saracens Stars on World Book Day

Pupils across our schools enjoyed a spectacular World Book Day this year with author visits, library scavenger hunts and lots of costumes!

The celebrations were made even more special with visits from Saracens rugby stars. At Saracens Bell Lane in Hendon, Louie Johnson joined the children for a special storytime. After sharing some of his favourite childhood reading memories, Louie headed to the playground for a kickabout and races with the pupils.

Meanwhile, at Saracens Broadfields in Edgware, Alec Clarey spent the morning visiting classrooms. He listened to the children read and chatted with them about their favourite books. Alec was very impressed by the pupils’ reading skills and their great enthusiasm for stories.

Pupils and staff at all of the schools are looking forward to watching Saracens men and women play in The Showdown match at the start of the Easter holidays. The family-friendly day will be made even more special as the professional athletes will be wearing kits designed by pupils from Saracens High School in collaboration with Castore.

School Leaders Praise Saracens High

We are happy to share the highlights from the recent Challenge Partners Quality Assurance Review for Saracens High School, conducted earlier this month. The review team, consisting of host school leaders and visiting reviewers, recognized the school’s continued commitment to excellence.

A significant highlight of the report is the formal accreditation of the school’s Area of Excellence: ‘Using values and culture to foster belonging and drive excellence’. This recognition underscores the school’s success in creating a supportive environment that empowers all pupils to thrive.

Led by Principal Dr. Matthew Stevens, the school continues to work closely within the Compton Hub to share best practices. This positive review serves as a testament to the hard work of our staff and pupils. In Saracens High School, as in all Saracens schools, we maintain focused on our vision of ‘enriching lives by developing lifelong learners who will thrive in life beyond school.’

Recognition from Education Secretary

We are incredibly proud to announce that both Saracens High School and Saracens Broadfields have received formal recognition from Bridget Phillipson, the Secretary of State for Education, for their “excellent outcomes” during the 2024/25 academic year.

The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP writes:

“This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.”

This prestigious commendation highlights the exceptional progress of our pupils:

Ms Phillipson encourages us to continue sharing best practices and to collaborate with others to help raise educational standards across the sector.

This success belongs to our entire community. Thank you to our dedicated teachers, hardworking pupils, and supportive families for helping us demonstrate what is possible!

New CEO

As we approach the end of term, we share a heartfelt thank you to Kate Alcock, our founding CEO, who is retiring after years of visionary leadership. Kate’s dedication has been the cornerstone of Saracens Multi-Academy Trust, and we wish her a wonderful retirement in Derbyshire. We hope she finds immense joy in the rolling countryside and treasures every moment with her grandchildren.

Looking ahead, we are delighted to welcome Chris Woolf as our new CEO. We look forward to working with him to ensure every child in our schools receives an exceptional education and the brightest of futures.

Takeover Day

A number of our sixth formers gained valuable work experience when they shadowed Saracens rugby club staff at a game in December.
Our talented students were placed with the following teams, to match their skills and interests: operations; marketing; hospitality; and production. We are grateful to Saracens for giving our students these unique experiences that are the envy of young adults in other schools and colleges.

On the same day, the principals from the 3 Saracens schools (Saracens High School, Saracens Bell Lane, and Saracens Broadfields) spoke about our wonderful communities in the hospitality lounges. They were ably assisted by some of our sixth form student leaders who helped raise both awareness and funds!

Saracens schools are unique in the whole of the UK for being linked to an elite sports club. With this comes access to extraordinary opportunities and experiences. We look forward to working with Saracens rugby club and their partners again in 2026.

Saracens Broadfields

SARACENS MULTI-ACADEMY TRUST (SARACENS MAT) IS THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THE EXPANSION OF ITS FAMILY WITH THE ADDITION OF SARACENS BROADFIELDS

The Edgware school that is ‘a London school in the countryside,’ joined the Trust on October 1st.
Kate Alcock, CEO of Saracens MAT, is humbled to have overseen two primary schools joining the Trust in two years:

“This marks a significant milestone, making Saracens Broadfields the third school, and the second primary school, to join Saracens MAT. We are looking to grow further, but don’t want to become a Super Trust, so we retain our sense of family and our close links to Barnet.”

A Happy School for All Learners

Saracens Broadfields is a happy and successful school, where children enjoy bright, modern buildings and extensive ‘broad fields’.

Sharon Keane, Acting Principal, believes the school serves all learners:

“As well as the ‘star programme’ to stretch the most academic and prepare them for the 11+, the school is unique in having provision units for children with SEN and a nursery that is run by experienced professionals.”

Many staff have been part of the happy community for decades. Sharon Keane herself has invested her passion and energy into the school for over 20 years and even sent her own children there.

A Day of Celebration

The school marked its launch day in style with a performance by the school choir, banners, balloons, a ‘street party’ and VIP guests. The event was honoured by the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress, with the Mayor cutting the ribbon to officially welcome the school into the Trust.

The wider Saracens family showed their support, with pupils and leaders from Saracens High School and Saracens Bell Lane in attendance, as well as Dai Flanagan, coach of the Saracens Men’s rugby team.

Kate Alcock, CEO of the Trust, welcomed all at Saracens Broadfields to this new chapter, as the school will now embrace the values that form the DNA of both the club and the schools: Discipline, Hard Work, Honesty, and Humility.

This expansion demonstrates the Trust’s continued mission to serve families in Barnet, north London, by giving young Londoners brighter futures.
